My laptop has an internal wireless card that does not have good reception at wi-fi spots.  What product(s) do I need to extend the range?

If you are willing to open up your laptop, you can install this pigtail which will give you an external antenna connector for your internal wireless card:

You can then use any antenna that has an RPSMA connector such as this one:

I have a laptop with an internal antenna/wireless card.  I am not comfortable opening the laptop to modify the internal wireless, can you suggest another way to increase the wifi range?
